I hated knowing there were problems with my air conditioning unit. Whenever there was anything wrong with the HVAC system, my husband tried to blame me. The last time there was a problem, the HVAC technician said it was because of a clogged air filter. There was no airflow, and it had caused the heat exchanger in the furnace to crack. We had to buy a new furnace, and my husband wasn’t happy. He told me I should have known something was wrong, and called the HVAC technician earlier. I wasn’t the one who fiddled with the furnace, and he should have known something was wrong. This time, my husband wasn’t home when the HVAC technician arrived. He told me the problem we were having was because of a clogged air filter. I knew there was an air filter in the furnace, but I didn’t know there was one in the AC unit. He told me the air filters needed to be changed at least every six weeks. It was the first defense against breakage and clean air in the house. He had me go outside with him, and he showed me where the air filter was. He then had me remove the air filter and showed me how to correctly insert the new one. If the job is that easy, I was sure I could do it, but not in the furnace.
