If you have a boy or girl who is at the age where they are trying to figure out what they want to do with their lives, you might consider talking to them about going to a technical or trade school.
Tradespeople such as plumbers and heating, ventilation, and A/C servicemen can absolutely earn a great living these days.
In addition, there are a lot of advantages to working in the heating and cooling industry, however you can take a short course at a tech school, in a year or less, and go out and get a job. It would be an entry-level job at an A/C dealer most likely, however you could also continue your education and get more heating, ventilation, and A/C certifications. After doing that, you could work up the ladder so to speak. In other words, you could work as a heating, ventilation, and A/C serviceman and go to school at the same time to be a heating, ventilation, and A/C serviceman with higher credentials. In fact, you may even discover that your director pays for you to take the advanced heating and cooling courses. And some heating, ventilation, and A/C companies also like to work with grocery stores and other commercial properties and so they love to have someone who also knows refrigeration. It’s important that we have skilled trades people who can service the heating, ventilation, A/C, and refrigeration at grocery stores and places like that. In addition to that, they are not stuck behind a desk all day. Their task involves moving and stretching and generally being healthier than people who plop down in a desk chair and never get up until 5pm. Personally, I have a desk job, despite the fact that I wish I would have also learned a skill such as heating, ventilation, and A/C, or even barbering.
