If you have consistently gone to a home improvement store and purchased those cheap red air conditioning filters, thinking that all A/C filters are the same, you need to learn about the multiple types of air conditioning filters on the market.
Those red ones are called fiberglass A/C filters, and they are just about the worst air conditioning filters you can buy.
They are only slightly better than using nothing. In fact, it might be better to use my pantyhose as an A/C filter instead of one of those red air conditioning filters. So, if you have consistently purchased those kinds of filters, it’s okay. Just take this reading experience and make better choices for your heating, ventilation, and A/C plan in the future. The next kind of air conditioning filter is normally called a pleated A/C filter. They are usually made of cotton or some other type of fabric, and they are slightly better than the fiberglass option. The next opportunity I want to mention is the HEPA air conditioning filter. In my house we only use HEPA filters. I want to protect my heating, ventilation, and A/C unit as much as possible, plus I want to keep debris out of the air so I have great indoor air pollen levels. At the same time, though, I have no interest in spending lots of currency every month on more high-priced heating, ventilation, and A/C filters. Another kind of air conditioning filter is the UV A/C filter. UV filters are great at killing off viruses and bacteria, however they are not as efficient as HEPA filters when it comes to filtering out dust and debris from the air. That’s why HEPA filters are my go to A/C air filter.
