I use a permanent air filter in my furnace

I thought after moving to the South, I would’ve escaped the brutal cold temperatures.

But I was wrong because we have been experiencing temperatures that I thought were only possible in the northern part of the country. A couple weeks ago, I woke up and the temperature was 7 degrees and the wind chill made it feel like it was –9 degrees. I hadn’t felt temperatures that cold since I lived in the North, so this occurrence came as a surprise to me. My saving grace was knowing that my furnace was well-equipped to handle these brutal temperatures. To keep my furnace running efficiently, I always make sure that I am up to date with all my service appointments. In addition, I perform my own maintenance so that I don’t run into too many issues. One thing I always make sure that I do is to keep my air filter clean. I have a permanent air filter installed and though it costs a bit more than the regular air filters, I like using them because they create less waste for the environment. With a price tag of around $75, the permanent air filter can be used for up to 5 years. And the best part is, they are washable, so I can clean my filter every 30 days or as needed. I believe it’s a better option than the regular air filter, which creates more waste as you will need to change them every 60 to 90 days. Regardless of which air filter you use for your furnace, the most important thing to do is to make sure that it’s clean. The cleaner the air filter, the better the air flow, which could potentially prevent major issues with your furnace as well as increase the life of it.
