The first thing he said was that being a veterinarian suited me and I glowed with excitement
I had known our local HVAC technician since we were in high school. We never ran in the same circles, but he was always kind to me. I was the farm girl who had to be home to help with the cows, and he was the BMOC. It didn’t matter what sport he participated in; he excelled. Everyone thought he was going to end up in major league baseball, or the NFL, but they were all wrong. He didn’t even accept a scholarship. He told his parents he wanted to be an HVAC technician and work for his father’s HVAC company. I still saw him around town and he always stopped to say hello, but I was busy getting my doctorate and working with the local veterinary clinic. It took ten years before I had my own clinic, and I worked mostly with larger animals, but I had an office in town, which I used as a hospital. I was in the office one afternoon, when the air conditioning broke. I called the local HVAC company, and I was surprised when Clive showed up. He repaired the air conditioning quickly then came in to talk to me. The first thing he said was that being a veterinarian suited me and I glowed with excitement. When he asked me to marry him I stopped working. He said he had been in love with me for years, and he wanted me to go out with him before the offer became concrete. I laughed so hard I cried, but I agreed to go out with him.
