Florida friends stay with us for a week

My life-long girlfriend and her husband paid us a visit last month and stayed for a week in our guest bedroom.

We are all empty-nesters, so our guest bedroom and bathroom provide plenty of room and privacy for them to stay.

The first day we decided to hang around the house and the pool rather than starting out on various jaunts in the area. That’s when the discussion of thermostat settings made its way into the conversation. Our southern friends are naturally more accustomed to higher temperatures than we are. Whereas we were comfortable with the thermostat set at seventy two or seventy three degrees, they were a bit chilled. Come to find out, they keep their thermostat set at seventy six degrees! That’s when we were so glad that we had installed zone heating and cooling a few years back. Our HVAC contractor had convinced us that heating and cooling with zones was much more efficient than central heating and cooling. In fact, he had documentation that indicated that zone heating and cooling can save up to thirty percent on energy costs. Zoning keeps specific areas of the home heated or cooled, while the other areas use less energy. Also known as automatic balancing systems, zoning systems are the ultimate solution for differing comfort levels and needs. And with house guests from a warm state, their comfort needs were much different from ours. Because we had multiple thermostats placed throughout the home, they were able to set the temperature in their bedroom and bathroom warmer than we set ours. The comfort, efficiency and temperature control that we enjoyed during their visit reinforced our belief that a zoned heating and cooling system was the best system for us.
