My parents home is a modular. It was built 8 years ago when we first moved to the northeast. There are multiple pieces that make up a modular. The pieces are put together and set on a foundation. With a modular home you can either choose one of the house plans that they have designed, or for a little more money, you can design your own home. That is what my parents did. They like the house that they designed however there are some things that they wish they did differently. The rooms in the house are much smaller and I don’t think they realized the actual size that it would come out to be. Plus the modular company that they went with didn’t do a good job finishing the house. During the winter the house can get pretty cold in certain parts. My bedroom is coldest since it’s in the front of the house and it faces most of the drafts. Also my bedroom has a pretty big window from the rest of the house. During a cold day you can feel the breeze coming through my window. The contractors did not insulate the windows in our home very well. I feel like we are losing so much heat and energy during the winter. Not to mention the more energy that you lose, the more money that my parent’s will be spending. I think they want to call a different contractor in to see if they can insulate our home more so we’re not losing so much heat.
