HVAC school later in life

My dad worked for a large corporate firm for most of his life.

  • He liked the work he did and got paid very well.

One year, the company had to lay off over half of their employees. My dad was one of them. He decided that he would be fine, as he was planning to retire soon anyways. He lasted about 3 months and then decided that he needed something to do. He decided to get into HVAC school. When he arrived to the first day of training, he was surrounded by many young HVAC trainees. He was, without a doubt, the oldest person in the room. He was twice the age of the teacher! At first, he felt uncomfortable. He always had an interest in HVAC repair, and never acted on it. He found that throughout the training, he was more knowledgeable than most of the other students. He had owned many homes that required HVAC repairs in the past, and he was familiar with most of the terms and equipment. My dad finished HVAC school and worked part time for a local HVAC company. He worked for 2 years for extra cash, and then decided to retire for good. He and my mom now travel the country in their RV and get to see everything they have always wanted to see! They renovated an old RV to include an air conditioning unit, heated floors, and a mini kitchen! It is like taking the luxury of your own home on the road.
