I was outside in the sunshine all day this week. It’s February plus that’s what my associate and I do here. This is the time of the year when I care about staying outside when I can. While so many people around the country are still inside with the gas furnace cranking out the heating, I’m enjoying the winter season weather. In our region, the winter season is entirely the time of year when it’s best to prefer being outside. I’m a sizable golfer, cyclist plus hiker so winter season time is our time to be outside in primetime. To me, primetime when it comes to being outside is right in the middle of the day. This time of year is absolutely the only time of year that my associate and I can count on getting outside all day. Soon, the heat pump will come back on and the need for it will return. And that will ultimately return me to a schedule that avoids being outside during the peak hours of summer. I love eating dinner outside. Even better is getting out of the commercial Heating plus Air Conditioning of the office when the food truck arrives. That is regularly a splurge day for me. Not only do I eat the yummy but fattening food truck food although I camp out on a bench in the sunshine while I eat it. And those are the afternoons that I tend to take a few more hours in the sunshine before heading back inside the cooling system. I’m soaking all of these moments up right now. It won’t be much longer now until I’ll be relegated to the cooling system once again.

It’s funny how we can end up doing things as adults that were dreams when we were kids.

I grew up in circumstances that weren’t all that good so I had plenty of dreams that had to wait to be fulfilled, and my mom was a single mother.

We were poor. The home we lived in didn’t have a modern central cooling system. Instead, there was a wood stove for heating and fans for cooling in the summer. I didn’t like the cooling system, until after I graduated! Even our dorm room didn’t have a central cooling system. There was a decent boiler in that dorm building which provided intense radiant heating all winter. There would be so much heating coming from the radiators that we’d have to crack a window, then no, our first cooling system was inside the home I had after school. And that was a heat pump that had seen better afternoons. Once I got cemented in our career and became a homeowner, I made sure that I had some good quality heating and air. But I also started making some other childhood dreams come true. It may sound unusual although I ended up building a treehouse. This is something I had regularly wanted but never had. There were these perfect oak trees on our property that would be the perfect base for a nice tree house. I care about this space and even had a ductless heat pump installed so I have a cooling system in our dream treehouse. Having a cooling system in the treehouse sounds silly, but it’s way better than a man cave to me.

New heating units

It’s not as bad as I was thinking it would be. But still, I’m not all that into flying commercially any longer. I enjoyed flying when it was comfortable and generally more reliable. But for the last couple of decades, flying has become anything but enjoyable, so I didn’t miss it when I was stuck inside, dealing with the recycled air of my home’s central air during the pandemic. My company shut down our offices with the zone-controlled HVAC and sent us home to work, but additionally, I was grounded plus had to crank the quality heating plus air of our car in order to get out plus do business with our buyers. While driving around to buyers took more effort, it was pleasurable plus I didn’t dislike it. So that’s why I chose to drive to meet with buyers, then I might run into heavy traffic but our trips are never suddenly canceled. And the cooling system in our car is regularly good, then that’s not true for most of the flights I’ve been on. Unfortunately, that characteristic of flying has continued. The first thing I felt when I got back on a plane was a lack of quality heating and air. I just felt packed in with not enough cooling system. However, I was pleased to know there were HEPA filters on the plane. HEPA filters remove more than 99-percent of all airborne contaminants. So, at least the indoor air conditions of our flight had improved since I last boarded a flight for business.

This last campground they stopped at didn’t have any sewage hookup, but they had already made the reservation. Lucky for them, their camping area boasted full restrooms and showers. They also had portable shower containers. My daughter said she had heard of portable showers, but she had never used one. Supposedly, portable shower containers had private bathrooms and a shower stall. Not being able to use the shower and bathroom in their RV, they were excited to know they had a portable shower container near them. My daughter said it was more convenient to use the portable shower container than walk to the public showers and bathrooms. Once she checked out the portable showers, she said she was going to look for only campgrounds that had portable showers. There was a private bathroom and a shower stall with a curtain pulled across. She didn’t need to be where other people were walking around naked and you could smell their body odors. That wasn’t for her, and is why she and her partner bought an RV; they could have a private bathroom of their own. I don’t know if I could travel the way she does. I enjoy having my own home, and knowing where I’m at. I want to have the privacy of being on my property, and if someone comes onto the property, I can chase them away. I guess you can’t be a private person when you live in an RV.
