I have been running the air conditioner in the condo almost since Ed and I moved in here plus it’s not even because of the heat. I think that I’m spending a ton on the cooling bills in this condo simply because I want to get rid of the humidity. I believe that I am easily going to call the Heating plus Air Conditioning dealer to see if they might have some other suggestions for myself and Ed because there has to be something else that Ed and I can do to decrease all of the humidity here.

My friend’s child and son-in-law are the most fortunate young couple I know. She is a cosmetologist, and he is a heating and cooling professional. She went to beauty school after high school, and took all her classes and got her certificate in under three years. He went to the heating and A/C program at the local trade school and learned how to install and repair furnaces and air conditioners, and he completed his program in about 16 weeks. Anyway, this couple is the most fortunate couple because both of them have decided to quit their jobs and start up their own businesses. He built a room on the back of their home for her to use as her salon. Now she sees her own clients in her own shop in her own house. He also decided to start up his own heating and A/C company. He is saving tons of money by not having to commute to the heating and cooling company. He does not have to take a heating and A/C job that he does not want to do and he has much more flexibility in his yearly schedule. He makes more money too! Because he is his own boss at the heating and cooling company and she is her own boss in the beauty salon, they have now decided to begin growing their little family. Their children will be truly fortunate because they will be able to spend more time with their parents and less time in afternoon care. When I call for air conditioning repair or maybe even AC consulting in my home, or when it is time to get a new heating and A/C system, I am absolutely going to call my friend’s son-in-law to get the best heating and A/C repair price I can and to support the young and smart entrepreneurs.

Have you always been a person or are you now a young person who thinks it is a nice plan to be your own boss? I am in my late fifties and am thinking about retirement nowadays, and looking back on my life I do realize that I would have probably been better off learning a trade. That is because I have an entrepreneurial spirit. I have done a side hustle, freelance writing, for at least twenty years now, and that is okay but it is not the same as being an entrepreneur. So if you have a child who wants to be his or her own boss, I highly suggest that you teach them to try learning a trade. For example, if your child learns how to be a cosmetologist, she can open her own beauty shop. If your child learned how to be a heating and A/C professional, one day he can also open his own heating and cooling company. Of course, he would have to go to school for it, but most heating and A/C programs are less than two years long. In fact, the tech school near me has a heating and A/C program that is only 16 or 18 weeks long. That’s just a year and four or so months to learn how to be a heating and cooling professional. There are more than three certifications for different things in the heating and A/C industry, plus people in the industry can learn more credentials as they go along. Also, heating and cooling companies are always looking for good skilled workers. After entirely working for other people for a decade or so, it is most likely that your child could decide to open his own heating and cooling business. Then he could be his own boss! The only people that would tell him what to do would be the buyers, because he would always want to be serving them the best way he could.

Are you a person who prefers to go out and buy all the latest gadgets? Or do you prefer to hang back and let other people spend the high prices while you just watch plus see what happens? Personally, I am the ladder, and I am not quick to embrace any kind of technology much less heating and A/C technology.

That being said, I have two siblings who are both into gadgetry and technology.

They both have all kinds of heating and A/C technology that I do not have. Both of them have what is called heating and A/C with zone control. Heating and A/C with zone control means that you set your air conditioning plan up so that your home is split into separate heating and cooling areas, called zones. Each one of those zones can be controlled separately from the others. In other words, you can use less air conditioning in a room that does not have people in it, for example. To illustrate, both of my siblings have two story houses and both have large homes! Yet one sibling lives with only his spouse, and the other sibling lives by himself. Therefore, it makes nice sense to turn the air conditioning off on whatever floor you are not using. At least, you can turn the control unit setting up a few degrees on whichever floor does not get the most use. That will normally be the ground floor, of course. However, when I go to visit my sibling, I normally stay in an upstairs study room, which means he has to control the control unit on the third floor. Even within the zone of the third floor, he can make the AC temperature lower in just my study room than it is in the other study rooms. It’s really kind of amazing.

Personally, I have a pet and I prefer to change my AC filters every week. Other people do not find that their AC filter is at all dirty after a week. If that is the case for you, you can possibly stretch it to many weeks, but even if your AC filter does not look dirty after many weeks, you should still change it. Another thing to do to save on your air conditioning plus have your beach house be more efficient is to use ceiling fans to your advantage. I have never had a home without ceiling fans down here in the southeast, plus I never will. Sitting under a ceiling fan makes you feel much cooler even though the temperature is not any lower than it is without the fan. This means you can have your control unit set a few degrees higher and still be just as comfortable.

Open your curtains and let the sun shine naturally as a heating system, so that your air is already as moderate as it can be when the heating system engages. The last two things you should do are wear moderately warm clothes around the home and put an extra blanket on the bed. This may seem obvious, but lots of folks prefer to walk around in shorts or just a t-shirt, and that is just putting extra pressure on your oil furnace.
