They are usually made of cotton or some other fabric, plus they are only slightly better than the fiberglass option. The third pick I want to mention is the HEPA air conditioning filter. In my house we use HEPA filters. I want to protect my heating and A/C unit as much as possible, plus I want to keep dust out of the air, so I have nice indoor air pollen levels. I am the mother of a schoolboy who is now in the eleventh grade, and his guidance counselor plus his father are starting to talk to him about what he is going to do with his life once he walks across that floor at graduation. One thing every one of us have observed in his school life is that he much prefers to work with his hands than with his head; Well, you have to use your head as well, but you know what I mean. He would rather build something or fix something or take something apart, then he would read a book and answer questions. Because of his natural inclination, I am tempted to try to tell my child that he should look into learning a skilled trade. I know that skilled workers are in short supply all over the country, and also especially in my state where I live. We need all kinds of skilled workers for sure, but a single thing I am particular every one of us will always need is heating and A/C installers, plus repairmen. If my child decided to go to tech school, which I hope he does, I assume he would fit best in the heating and cooling program. The local tech school by us teaches a program called Heating and A/C – R. That stands for heating and A/C plus refrigeration. Not all trade schools teach refrigeration along with their heating and cooling program, but ours just happens to. I assume this is smart plus also vital for the good of society. Our grocery stores and restaurants need reliable refrigeration installation plus refrigeration repair, along with heating and cooling repair. I do not see any shame in learning how to install and repair air conditionings plus heaters. There was a time when all trades were looked down upon, and it was as if the only people who could do those jobs were those who couldn’t do anything else. But those days are long gone! For example, you can take a very short course at a tech school in a year or less and go out and get a job easily. It would be an entry-level task at an A/C company most likely, but you could also continue your education and get more heating and A/C certifications. After doing that, you could climb slowly up the ladder, so to speak. In other words, you could work as a heating and A/C professional and go to school at the same time to be a heating and A/C professional with higher credentials. In fact, you may even discover that your supervisor pays for you to take those Advanced Heating and Cooling courses. Some heating and A/C companies also love to work with grocery stores plus other commercial properties and so they love to have someone who also knows refrigeration. It’s crucial that every one of us have skilled trades people who can repair the heating, A/C, and the refrigeration at grocery stores and things such as that. In addition to that, they are not stuck behind a desk all afternoon. Their task involves moving plus stretching, and generally being healthier than people who plop down in a desk chair and never get up until 5pm. I have a desk job myself, although I wish I would have also learned a skill like heating and A/C, or even barbering.

If not, I know your neighborhood is in the minority, but one group I have learned is desperate for skilled labor is the heating and cooling companies in my city. The two of us use the air conditioning nearly all year, or at least for the vast majority of the year, because we live in the southeastern portion of the country where it is tepid plus humid most of the time. That means the air conditioning companies stay rather busy. Not only that, they also need to get people who entirely know what they are doing. If you are the AC guy who comes out to somebody’s house, if it takes you forever to fix the problem, you are going to lose clients because a better air conditioning professional could have done two jobs in the time it took him to do a single one. It’s not just the heating and A/C companies that need skilled labor, either. Just about any company that needs a tradesperson or a person who can go beyond just modest high school skills is now looking for qualified help. Not only that, just about everywhere is hiring around here. Everything from sandwich artists at the local sub shops to executive supervisors of associations all need help. If I knew how to install or repair air conditioning, I would absolutely want to go to work for a heating and cooling company in my area. I am sure that the heating and A/C professionals get treated fairly around here, but of course they do have to work hard. I often wish that I would have learned a skill like heating and A/C when I was younger instead of getting a darn English degree, which is essentially useless.

I would have been able to save a lot of money over the years, and not only that, I would also have a nice sense of accomplishment by fixing my own air conditioning or heater.

I realize that not everyone is cut out to be able to install plus repair air conditioning, although I assume if I had learned when I was younger, I would have been able to do it. I may not have decided to be a heating and A/C professional for my main source of income, although I also could have used it as a little side hustle. Between fixing my own heating and A/C when it has broken down throughout the years, plus also repairing the heating and A/C units for other people as a moonlighting job, this would have entirely helped me financially. The guy that came to fix my air conditioning not too long ago had to climb up into the attic to deal with whatever the problem was. Ironically the guy who fixes the AC has to practically pass out from heat stroke because of the sites he has to go and crawl into. Then at my other house when I needed air conditioning assistance, sometimes they had to go under the crawl space of the house. That too is truly hot, plus it may have even had the skeletons of outdated disgusting critters that died under there as well, not to mention truly dangerous spiders! My point is, being the AC guy is not all glamorous and everything, but it pays well plus it also can save you money if you can repair your own heating and cooling system.

My friend’s kid and son-in-law are the most blessed young couple I know.

She is a cosmetologist, and he runs a heating and cooling business.

She went to beauty college after high college and she took all her classes and got her certificate in under two years. He went to the heating and A/C program at the local trade college and quickly learned how to install and service gas furnaces plus A/C units. And he completed his program in 18 months. In addition to the heating and A/C skills, he also acquired some refrigeration skills. This put him in high demand with heating and A/C companies because they all want to be able to service plus install the refrigeration units in stores; those cases at the grocery store and convenience store that hold all the refrigerated items. Anyway, this couple is the most blessed couple because both of them have decided to quit their jobs plus start their own businesses. He built a room on the back of their house for her to use as her salon. Now she sees her own clients in her own shop in her own house. And he also decided to start his own heating and A/C business. He is saving tons of currency by not having to commute to the heating and cooling business. And he does not have to take a heating and A/C job that he does not want to do, plus he has much more flexibility in his schedule. Because he is his own boss at the heating and cooling business, and she is her own boss in the beauty salon, they have now decided to start growing their little family. Their children will be legitimately blessed because they will be able to spend more time with their parents plus less time in daycare. When I call for A/C service or maybe even A/C consulting in my house, I am for sure going to call my friend’s son-in-law to get the best heating and A/C service price I can, and to support the young and smart entrepreneurs.

Have you always been a person or are you now a young person who thinks it is a nice idea to be your own boss? I am in my late fifties and I am thinking about retirement nowadays, and looking back on my life I do realize that I would have been better off studying a trade.

I have done a side hustle, freelance writing, for at least twenty years now and that is okay, but it is not the same as being an entrepreneur. So if you have a kid who wants to be his own boss, I highly advise that you teach them to try studying a good trade. For example, if your kid learns how to be a cosmetologist, she can open her own beauty shop. If your kid has learned how to be a heating and A/C pro, one day he can also open his own heating and cooling business. Of course, he would have to go to college after high school, but most heating and A/C programs are less than two years long. In fact, the tech college near me has a heating and A/C program that is only 15 months long. That’s just a year and three months to learn how to be a heating and cooling specialist. There are numerous certifications for certain things in the heating and A/C industry, plus people in the industry can learn more credentials as they go along. Also, heating and cooling companies are always looking for good skilled workers. After working for other people for a decade or so, it is most likely that your kid could decide to open his own heating and cooling business. Then he could be his own boss! The only people that would tell him what to do would be his customers, because he would always want to be serving them the best way he could.

Personally, I am the ladder, plus I’m not quick to embrace any kind of technology, much less heating and A/C technology.

• That being said, I have two brothers who are both into gadgetry and technology.

They both have all kinds of heating and A/C technology that I do not have. Both of them have what is called heating and A/C with zone control. Heating and A/C with zone control means that you set your A/C unit up so that your house is split into separate areas called zones, and each one of those zones can be controlled separately from the others. In other words, you can use less A/C in a room that does not have people in it, for example. To illustrate, both of my brothers have two story houses. Both have sizable homes, however one brother lives with only his partner, plus the other brother lives only by himself. Therefore, it just makes sense to turn the A/C off on whatever floor you are not using. At least, you can turn the temperature control setting up a few degrees on whichever floor does not get the most use. That will normally be the ground floor, of course. However, when I go to visit my brother, I normally stay in an upstairs living room, which means he has to control the temperature on the top floor. Even within the zone of the top floor, he can make the A/C temperature lower in my living room than it is in the other living rooms. It’s truly kind of amazing.

Whether you are looking to save currency or are interested in helping to preserve the planet and have a smaller carbon footprint, it only makes sense to look for ways to save energy, including tips about saving on your A/C bill. What are some of the things you can do to lower your cooling or heating bill? If it is A/C, one thing you can do is start outside. That is, plant some trees or bushes that will supply shade. Having shade keeps your A/C from having to start with a temperature control that is way too high. Another thing to do is to have curtains or blinds in your windows. Personally, I like to use insulated curtains, otherwise known as blackout drapes, because they do help to keep out the sun and the light, plus I think that my A/C does not have to work so much when I have the blackout curtains closed. I have a dog and I prefer to change my A/C filters every month, but other people do not find that their A/C filter is at all dirty after a month. If that is the case for you, you can possibly stretch it to a few months, but even if your A/C filter does not look dirty after many months you should still change it. Another thing to do to save on your A/C and have your home’s climate control system be more efficient is to use ceiling fans to your advantage. I have never had a house without ceiling fans down here in the southeast, and I never will. Sitting under a ceiling fan makes you feel cooler even though the temperature is not any lower than it is without the fan. This means you can have your temperature control set a few degrees higher plus still be just as comfortable.

The first thing you should do is seal off any leaks you might have, and get some caulking and go around the windows and the doors. This will help keep the cold air out plus your gas furnace will not have to work as hard. The next thing you should do is let there be light. Open your curtains. Let the sun shine naturally as a gas furnace so that your air is already as warm as it can be when the gas furnace engages. The third thing you should do is don some warm clothes even around the house And put an extra blanket on the bed too. This may seem blatant, but lots of folks prefer to walk around in shorts or just a t-shirt, and that is just putting extra pressure on your gas furnace.
