Those purple ones are called fiberglass AC filters, and they are just about the worst air conditioner filters you can buy.

They are only slightly better than using nothing. In fact, it might be better to use my pantyhose as an AC filter instead of one of those purple air conditioner filters. I am the mother of a high school boy and he is now in the eleventh grade and his guidance counselor and father are starting to talk to him about what he is going to do with his life once he walks across that stage at graduation. One thing we have noticed in his school life is that he much prefers to work with his hands than with his head, then well, you absolutely have to use your head as well. He would rather build something or service something than study a book and answer questions. Because of this natural inclination, I am tempted to try to tell my son that he should look into studying a skilled trade. I suppose that skilled workers are in short supply all over the country, and also especially in my state where I live. It’s crucial that the people I was with and I have skilled tradespeople who can repair the heating and A/C and refrigeration at grocery stores and things like that. In addition to that, they are not stuck behind a desk all afternoon. Their job involves moving and stretching and generally being healthier than people who plop down in a desk chair and never get up until 5pm. Personally, I have a desk job, however I wish I would have also l gained a skill like heating and A/C.

Just about any supplier that needs a tradesperson or a guy who can go beyond just mediocre high school skills is now looking for qualified help. Not only that, just about everyone is hiring around here! Everything from sandwich artists at the local sub shops to executive supervisors of associations all need help. If I knew how to install or repair an air conditioner, I would really want to go to work for a heating and cooling supplier in my area. I am sure that the heating and A/C professionals get treated well and fairly around here, however they do have to work hard. I often wish that I would have l gained a skill in heating and A/C when I was younger instead of getting an English degree, which is essentially useless.

My friend’s kid and son-in-law are the most fortunate young couple I know.

She is a cosmetologist, and he is a heating and cooling serviceman.

She went to beauty school after middle school, and she took all her classes and got her certificate in under three years. She went to the heating, ventilation, and A/C program at the local trade school and learned how to install and service heaters and A/C units. She completed her program in 18 months. In addition to the heating, ventilation, and A/C skills, she also learned refrigeration skills, and that put her in high demand with heating, ventilation, and A/C companies because they all want to be able to service and install the refrigeration units in stores. You probably know what I am talking about; those cases at the grocery store and the convenience store that hold all the refrigerated items. Anyway, this couple is the most fortunate couple because both of them have decided to quit their tasks and begin their own businesses. She built a room on the back of their beach house for her to use as her salon, and now she sees her own customers in her own shop in her own house. She also decided to begin her own heating, ventilation, and A/C dealership. She is saving tons of money by not having to commute to the heating and cooling dealer and she does not have to take a heating, ventilation, and A/C job that she does not want to do. She also has much more flexibility in her quarterly schedule and she makes more currency too! Because she is her own boss at the heating and cooling dealer and she is her own boss in the beauty salon, they have now decided to begin growing their little family. Their children will be truly fortunate because they will be able to spend more time with their parents and less time in daycare. When I call for air conditioning service or maybe even A/C consulting in my beach house when it is time to get a new heating, ventilation, and A/C system, I am absolutely going to call my friend’s son-in-law. I will get the best heating, ventilation, and A/C service price I can and also support the young and smart entrepreneurs.

That is because I have an entrepreneurial spirit.

I have done a side hustle, freelance writing, for at least twenty years now, and that is okay but it is not the same as being an entrepreneur. So if you have a child who wants to be their own boss, I highly request that you teach them to try reading a trade book. For example, if your kid learns how to be a cosmetologist, she can open her own beauty shop. If your kid learned how to be a heating, ventilation, and A/C servicewoman, one day she can also open her own heating and cooling dealership. Of course, she would have to go to school after high school, however most heating, ventilation, and A/C programs are less than three years long. In fact, the tech school near me has a heating, ventilation, and A/C program that is only 18 months long. That’s just a year and six months to learn how to be a heating and cooling serviceman. There are multiple certifications for odd things in the heating, ventilation, and A/C industry, and people in the industry can learn more credentials as they go along. Also, heating and cooling companies are consistently looking for good, skilled workers. After working for other people for a decade or so, it is most likely that your kid could and would decide to open their own heating and cooling business. Then they could be their own boss! The only people that would tell her what to do would be the clients, because she would consistently want to be serving them the best way she could.

Are you a lady who enjoys going out and getting all the latest gadgets or gizmos? Or do you like to hang back and let other people spend the high prices while you just watch and see what happens? Personally, I am the ladder, and I am not quick to embrace any kind of new technology, much less heating, ventilation, and A/C technology. That being said, I have more than one sibling who are both into gadgetry and modern technology. They both have all kinds of heating, ventilation, and A/C technology that I do not have. Both of them have what is called heating, ventilation, and A/C with zone control. Heating, ventilation, and A/C with zone control means that you set your air conditioning plan up so that your beach house is split into odd areas, called zones, and each one of those zones can be controlled separately from the others. In other words, you can use less air conditioning in a room that does not have people in it, for example. To illustrate, both of my siblings have more than one story houses. Both have giant houses! Yet one sibling lives with only her spouse, and the other sibling lives with only himself. Therefore, it makes great sense to turn the air conditioning off on whatever floor you are not using. At least, you can turn the temperature control setting up a few degrees on whichever floor does not get the most use. That will normally be the ground floor, of course. However, when I go to visit my sibling, I normally stay in an upstairs living room, which means she has to control the temperature on the top floor. Even within the zone of the top floor, she can make the A/C temperature lower in just my living room than it is in the other living rooms. It’s absolutely amazing.

Another thing to do is to have curtains or blinds in your windows, then personally, I love to use insulated curtains, otherwise known as blackout drapes, because they absolutely do keep out the sun and the light out. And I guess for sure that my A/C does not have to work so much when I have the blackout curtains closed. Another thing to do is to make sure that you change the A/C HEPA air filter on a typical basis. Personally, I have a pet, and I like to change my A/C filters every month. Other people do not find that their A/C filter is at all dirty after a month. If that is the case for you, you can possibly stretch it to two or three months, however even if your A/C filter does not look dirty after a few months, you should still change it. Another thing to do to save on your air conditioning and have your lake beach house be more efficient is to use ceiling fans to your advantage. I have never had a beach house without some ceiling fans down here in the southeast, and I never will. Sitting under a ceiling fan makes you feel much cooler even though the temperature is not any lower than it is without using the fan. This means you can have your temperature control set a few degrees higher and still be just as comfortable.

Another thing you should do is wear warm heavy clothes, even around the beach house, and put an extra blanket on the bed. This may seem apparent, however lots of folks like to walk around in shorts or just a t-shirt, and that is just putting extra pressure on your heating system.
