Air Conditioning Price Updates

After a week of vacation at the beach, I was sunburned red with lots of little blisters on my arms and legs.

The flight home was absolutely miserable.

The lady next to me had to get up and use the bathroom 15 different times. Every time she got up, I had to move and I felt the pain in my arms and legs. I moved the ventilation ducting in my direction so all of the cool air was coming down in my area. When I finally got back to my apartment, all I wanted to do was put up my feet and relax. Unfortunately, there was no AC in my apartment. I checked the thermostat and the machine and I even flipped the breaker for the AC and the whole apartment. Nothing seemed to help the situation so I called a repairman. It took about 2 hours before the repairman arrived. I waited patiently while the guy evaluated the system. The HVAC technician told me that the AC system could not be repaired until the next day. The whole reason why I called the guy in the first place was to fix that AC and I was very upset that he did not think that was going to be possible until the next day. Why did I have to pay an emergency service fee for the after hours call if he could not remedy the problem right away. I was very upset and I decided to call another AC repair company. Unfortunately, no one could fix the system until the next day.

It took myself and others a little bit to get the hang of being a landlord.

Never had I envisioned myself as being the kind of dude to own property, however after an inheritance this is where I find myself.

The logistics of handling these renters, juggling their concerns, & collecting rent are too much for me, so I pay a property supervisor to handle all the details. This is a recent development for me, because at 1st I tried to handle it all myself with disastrous results. I thought I could save money by doing some of the handyman tasks myself, & almost immediately I ruined a central Heating & A/C method by trying to tune it up. After that I refused to ever touch another Heating & A/C method again. If it is anything more advanced than decreasing a dirty HEPA air filter, or putting current batteries in the control component then I will call an expert to handle it! I have forged a solid working relationship with a local man named Ben, who recently retired after 25 years in the Heating & A/C industry. Ben might be retired although he is bored, & he cares about money, so I pay Ben “under the table” to handle any Heating & A/C emergencies that come up. Since Ben still has his Heating & A/C certification he is legally allowed to do the work, although our current arrangement is less than legal. By now working with an “outlaw” Heating & A/C tech instead of a legit supplier I am saving myself more than nine thousand dollars a year, or more! Ben makes extra money, & I save a lot of money so almost everyone wins.

The thought of converting an old university bus into a spare room had never occurred to me, until I wound up with 1 on my property.

It had no wheels, nor any kind of engine, however the metal structure of the automobile was still strong.

Since I couldn’t haul it away – there was no location to haul it to – I decided to get a little more creative & turn it into a spare guest room. I have guests come to visit from time to time, & with the right touches the bus could task as a cottage, or a guest suite. The cosmetic touches were self-explanatory enough, however it got more complicated when it came to plumbing, electricity, & a/c. There was no way to have a livable section without running water & HVAC control. I wanted to do this undoubtedly on my own, without the help of an electrician or a Heating & A/C tech, so I turned to the wellSpring of all modern expertise – Youtube, of course! I spent hours on end searching for the right channel, so I could find some insight into how to install the HVAC control method on the bus. After many afternoons of watching videos, I arrived at the conclusion that it would simply be too dangerous to install an Heating & A/C method myself. Instead I should just buy a portable, small Heating & A/C method capable of heating & cooling, & mount that on the roof of the bus. By doing it like this I will save myself hundreds of dollars worth of Heating & A/C equipment, & a good deal of time. The Heating & A/C method sitting on the roof won’t look great, however it will get the task done.

I was delighted to spend time in the Girl Scouts when I was young.

I didn’t enjoy the badges, or selling cookies, or any of that garbage.

What I did truly enjoy was studying the most invaluable survival and wilderness skills. It was neat to learn how to survive in the wilderness, or how to find your way home when you are lost. These felt important as skills that I could use to survive just about anything. It surprises myself and others that so few people ever think about how to start a fire. I don’t mean turning on your gas grill, or decreasing your control unit, however legitimately building a real fire. If your power goes out, & you don’t have your extravagant Heating & A/C methods to rely on, what will you do to keep warm? When my kids got old enough, the 3 of us chose to go to spend a few afternoons at a remote cottage in the woods, a place that had no electricity or weather conditions control. It was supposed to be a frigid weekend, & I wanted my kids to learn how to build a proper fire in the fireplace. They were bummed about it at first, more for the lack of wireless than the lack of heating. Then I showed them how much fun it could be to stack up the logs in the fireplace just so & then light them ablaze. I taught them how to manage a fire, & how to tend it so it didn’t rage out of control. I hope they never have a life-or-death emergency involving heating, however if that ever does happen, they will be prepared. Just the same as the motto of the Scouts.

 

Cooling specialist

In this section of the state a/c is really important for about half of the year.

Most of my renters guess that I am the owner of all these rentals. In fact I am a property supervisor, a paid professional who handles all the details on behalf of the property owner. My boss runs fifteen condos, houses & duplexes, spread out all over the town. Most of my afternoons are spent in the car, racing between the office & 1 of the rental properties, either to inspect an issue, collect a debt, or meet with a tradesperson for some appointment or another. I own none of these properties, I am just the hatchet-man for the boss. My cousin Bob is a certified Heating & A/C worker, & I hooked Bob up with my boss to be the on-call repair pro for all our heating & cooling needs. In this section of the state a/c is really important for about half of the year. People can live without heating for a very long time & never realize anything is wrong, however the moment the AC breaks I will get a phone call. Bob works for a local Heating & A/C supplier, however this is his side-gig. Whenever there is an Heating & A/C emergency, & Bob isn’t at his correct work, he will come over & check it out. I think it’s a hassle for Bob, however the pay is good… Because he is now working off the books, Bob can charge about half of what an Heating & A/C supplier would, & it’s all profit for him! Bob makes more, & my boss saves more, so it’s a win-win for almost everyone! If there is ever a Heating & A/C emergency while Bob is at work, then the renter just has to wait.

 

Quality heating and air

I was now working with Tevin, the son of the boss.

Everyone knew that Tevin was a louse & a layabout, however the rest of us were not aware that he had been drinking on the work.

Thanks to Tevin being high and drunk while the two of us were in the HVAC duct replacement there was an accident, 1 that sent myself and 3 others to the local hospital. The boss paid all our medical bills, & provided us all with paid leave, mostly because he didn’t want myself and others to sue his butt off! When I became mobile enough, & had a wheelchair, the boss put myself and others to task in the head office instead of the field. I needed to learn a whole current side of the heating & cooling business, 1 I was not yet familiar with. As I reclaimed I l acquired all that I could, especially after finding out that Tevin was in line to take over the Heating & A/C supplier 1 afternoon. The owner wanted Tevin to follow in his footsteps, even though Tevin was poorly suited to manage a big Heating & A/C supplier enjoy this 1. The thought that 1 afternoon I would have to answer to Tevin made myself and others realize that I should consider being an Heating & A/C supplier myself. I knew all about the repair and service operations of Heating & A/C techs, however now I was studying about the paperwork, the insurance, & the invoices. In a few more days I will be ready to go back in the field & start now working on cooling systems again, & by that point I need to have a long-term supplier method for my future. I guess it’s time to start being my own boss.

After I lost my last task I had to find something else to occupy my time. Since my partner Eddy is a really successful lawyer, I didn’t legitimately need to go find another work. Eddy has constantly paid all of the bills for both of us, & did really well for herself, so this wasn’t a problem of needing more money, I really just needed something constructive to do with my time. I spent a couple of weeks smoking pot & watching old films all afternoon, however suddenly grew tired of it. I decided to tackle a long-ignored problem, and finally conduct a full cleaning of the Heating & A/C method & the HVAC duct. I saw that HVAC ducts & vents need to be cleaned every year or more than one, & ours had never been scrubbed in the 6 years the two of us lived here. I started by taking the air vents off of the walls, 1 a day. Once I had the grates removed I had a clear view into the depths of my HVAC duct, & I was repulsed by what I saw. This home had never gotten the HVAC duct scrubbed clean out before, & the amount of dust, dander, & detritus inside was shocking. I purchased a heavy-duty Swiffer with an extended pole for a handle so I could reach deeply into the HVAC ducts & started to scrub away the grime. It was a lot harder than I expected it to be! When I was done, I had to switch to the next air vent & repeat the process. I never realized this home had so many air vents, or so much HVAC ductwork.

When you handle a lot of rental properties, you are constantly having to solve problems & “put out fires” as the expression goes.

Gladly I’ve never had to deal with a real fire! Mostly the concerns have to do with around-the-home repairs & general upkeep, so I keep a handyman named Don on retainer.

If I was making more money I would hire a property supervisor to handle all this stuff for me, however for right now I have to handle it myself. Don is really skilled in most domestic tasks, although he is not yet certified in Heating & A/C systems repair, which means I need to contract ith a local supplier. I own a lot of rental properties, & it is pretty luxurious paying for a Heating & A/C supplier every time there is a problem, however you think why? Because there is constantly a new problem! Renters never lift a finger to maintain their own properties, which means every tiny thing from decreasing the air filters to replacing the batteries in the control units is up to myself and Don. I have made Don an offer to pay for his evening classes if he wants to learn Heating & A/C repair himself! Even if I pay for Don’s books & Heating & A/C training courses it will still be cheaper than what I pay the HVAC supplier every month. The Heating & A/C industry is really strict, & if you do not have your official certification you cannot legally task on heating the cooling systems. If Don isn’t interested in taking classes to learn Heating & A/C repairs, perhaps I need to start looking around for a more current handyman.

Learning how to make a fire is 1 of the most basic life skills, so everyone reading this needs to learn how to do it. Not to get too dramatic about it, however the ability to make fire is what set man above the other life forms, making fire led to the rise of mankind as the two of us think it, and moreover, the ability to build a fire can be the difference between life & death in a wilderness survival situation. The odds are good that you will never need to make a fire to survive the evening… however wouldn’t you rather understand how, just in case? Both of us tend to take heating for granted, no matter where the two of us are, however you have to keep in mind that Mother Nature is a monster, and can take it all away at any time. When I was a kid I l acquired a fancy lesson about the importance of having heating, 1 I still vividly remember. My parents used a really old furnace that required a constant supply of heating oil. One afternoon they drove into town to buy more heating oil before the big ice storm hit. The storm came early, & after skidding off the highway my parents could not make it back out to the house. With no heating oil the oil furnace could not work, so there I was trapped all alone in the home as the temps started to drop. I found a sectional oil furnace in 1 of the closets, however when the power went out it was useless to me. I realized that I could use the old stone fireplace to keep myself hot through the evening, however I didn’t understand how to make a fire yet!

 

Heating maintenance

Max came to the shop drunk again this afternoon.

I have no method when this guy ever sleeps.

To my expertise Max starts drinking beers as soon as he clocks out, around 5 or 6 in the evening. Max keeps drinking until 5 or 6 the following afternoon before he drags himself back to work. I think Max must find time to sleep at some point, I just can’t figure out how he does it! Max is a very nice guy, however I actually don’t guess he is break out for a job in the heating & cooling industry. The Heating & A/C task is a hard 1, it requires focus, patience, & a strong task ethic, & Max has none of these qualities. When he is at work, & sober, Max is a good Heating & A/C tech, especially when it comes to customer service. Max might take a while to finish an cooling system tune-up, although he is the best at talking to the clients. In the last year Max has become my top salesperson when it comes to the annual Heating & A/C repair plans. Max has the “gift of gab” & after a few minutes of conversation he can convince a lot of people how fancy the annual Heating & A/C repair method is, but out of all my Heating & A/C techs Max is the best at this, so I actually don’t want to fire him! On the other hand, if Max keeps coming to task drunk it won ‘t matter how many annual Heating & A/C repair plans he sells. Drinking & fixing Heating & A/C systems do not mix, & sooner or later Max will get himself hurt.
