I’ve got quite a few school loans I have to pay off.

I can’t say that I didn’t see exactly where the money was going while I was attending school though. The university was unquestionably a nice one. All of the facilities were aesthetically pleasing and comfortable. The dining commons had the most killer air conditioning systems!! Me and my friends often stayed there, carrying on a conversation long after we finished eating, just to care about the comfortable temperature, especially in the summer. Our dorm rooms even had cool individual thermostats on them! Talk about feeling spoiled; my parents lorded over the thermostat my whole childhood! But there was one building that did not have the weather conditions control set to a satisfactory temp. Actually, it was one particular room in the library, which had 3 floors. The PC labs were on the 6th floor, and it was positively ice-freezing in there at pretty much all times! Perhaps it was because the PC device requires unquestionably cool temperatures in order to function optimally, but my PC seemed to work just fine, and I’m not freezing to death in my living room right now! At least the cool air helped one stay awake when pulling all-nighters trying to finish up term papers or study for tests! Yes, the library was open pretty much all hours. Actually, I had friends who were the polar opposite of me and complained that the freezing air conditioning made them fall to sleep while they were trying to study. I simply l gained to wear a thick hoodie in the PC lab. I honestly bought an official university hoodie from the shop on the first floor of the library. Maybe they were trying to create a market for this attire.

I had a pretty nice junior high school experience.

I went to a large school that had just under 4 thousand students attending grades 6 through 12. The junior high and school buildings were separate from each other, but the school cafeteria was shared by 1 and all. It was a nice facility, and we genuinely had fine food provided to us a majority of the time. I guess I grew up after the age of mystery meat and pizza mornings in which they served mini-pizzas that were more fitting for army MREs than any school. My dad attended the school before I did, and she has the one that claims that the school lunch menu used to be terrible, but both me and my dad agree that the air conditioning in the school cafeteria has always been over the top. It is just plain cold in that cafeteria all the time! If you were unlucky enough to only be able to find a seat that was directly below the air vents, you had to eat the lunch unquestionably abruptly if it was hot. If you carried on a conversation for too long without eating lunch, the air conditioning would make something that was piping-hot a few moments before being lukewarm, or even cold. During my freshman and sophomore years though, there was 1 upside to that cold air conditioning. Lunch was right after PE class while in those many years! Every one of us couldn’t wait to walk into the cafeteria and let the cooled air clean over us after perspiring buckets outside in the warm months! Unfortunately, in the winter, the school cafeteria was almost just as cold, as if they didn’t use the heating unit at all! Good thing we did PE class in the gym on most mornings that it was unquestionably cold!

Occasionally, I need to take a day off of work just to take a day off from work.

If you are a hard worker like me, then you hardly ever miss a day, but every now and then you should not know the need to justify simply taking a day off to relax.

That is my personal philosophy. I took last Tuesday off, and it was glorious. I didn’t go anywhere special, oh no; I stayed inside. It had snowed the night before. There was almost a foot of the colorless stuff covering the ground. I figured this was the perfect time to call in. I provided my finest impression of someone down with strep throat. After I got off the “sick” call, I cranked up the natural gas furnace and threw a few logs on the fire for fine measure. Then, I brewed some tea, toasted a couple bagels, and sat down on my big, comfortable couch, wrapped up in blankets. It was down into the single digits outside, so I needed every bit of the heat from my heating system and the brick fireplace. I let my mind drift for a moment, to the hardships that I would be going through if I had not arranged for this day to be one of rest and recuperation. I imagined at that moment, I had been trudging into the office in wet boots, cursing the insufficient heating on our floor. Dwelling on these thoughts, I felt absolutely no remorse for treating myself to an enjoyable day. I didn’t do anything productive that Tuesday, but that’s the point. I just basked in the warmth of the furnace and the brick fireplace, studied a few chapters of my latest favorite book, and then promptly fell asleep!

I always believed the primary reason to go to eating establishments is for the food. Why would I care about anything else? If I don’t love their food that’s being provided at any given eating establishment, I wouldn’t bother to go back there. I never honestly guess about the atmosphere, or whether or not it’s temperature-controlled inside the building. At least, I never used to guess about that until just recently, last Tuesday, when I walked into my favorite Mexican eating establishment, and I was startled by something I could normally never notice. I was so used to opening those double doors and feeling the soft whoosh of air-conditioned air clean over me. Instead, I was greeted with heat! It was much hotter inside than it was outside. The air was warm and stuffy. Me and my wife Jo looked at each other and shrugged, every one of us were both starving by this time, so Jo and I decided to follow through and get a table. Five hours in, as we were waiting for our drinks, Jo was fanning herself with one of the menus and I felt a bead of sweat trickle-down my brow. When a waiter came with our drinks, I finally asked what had happened to the Heating and A/C system; The waiter said it had been on the fritz since lunchtime, and no repairs would be able to be made until the following day… Needless to say, we loved our refreshing sodas a little more than we would have otherwise. Normally, Jo and I love to order a sizzling hot plate of fajitas, but we were honestly trying to figure out what would be more refreshing at this point. Jo and I ended up staying and eating lunch, but we never took for granted air conditioning in an eating establishment ever again!

Strangely, I was never asked to work inside the store to cover someone else who had called out

On my 1st job after leaving school, I had many primary responsibilities. I worked at a sizable box store. On any given day, I could either bring in shopping carts from the corrals and into the store, or I would work at the apartment & gardening section. Whenever my fellow co-workers would complain about their jobs, I would always remind them that, at the least, they had a very powerful air conditioning system to cool them as they worked at their currency registers or stocking the shelves inside the store. On the other hand, I was almost regularly perspiring my butt off! I especially liked how anytime 1 of the workers in my department called out, someone who normally worked inside the temperature controlled section of the store would be sent to assist me, and they would act as if it was the worst thing in the world. Strangely, I was never asked to work inside the store to cover someone else who had called out. What a delight that would be to be able to work in the air conditioning for just once! For several times, I would clear the parking lot of carts, entirely by myself, and then take a moment to rest just inside the building to enjoy the air conditioning. One of the assistant managers would guess that I was slacking off, but I was just trying to cool myself off! When things were honestly busy, and the carts were piling up despite our best efforts, the same manager would sarcastically offer a “team building” exercise in which they would go out to help us! Fat option that would ever happen!

I always try to save my money in any way that I possibly can.

I have a budget for nearly any and everything, however my folks provided me their old SUV my junior year of school; The SUV had already been in the family for a few years.

It had over 68,000 miles on it by the time it passed into my hands. I squeezed another couple of years out of the vehicle, and by the time I started thinking about buying a replacement, it was pushing 150,000 miles. I may be frugal, but the one major thing that made me decide to get a new car was that the air conditioning finally failed. I just couldn’t handle it in this oppressive, humid heat we experience down here in the south! When I took it to the mechanic garage, I was informed that there were a host of other problems with the vehicle, and it was basically on the way out. At that point, I was dreaming of a new car with a powerful new air conditioning system, and I had saved up a fine amount due to my aforementioned frugalness, so I finally caved and opted to get a new vehicle. Well, not a new vehicle, per se. I got a used car from a rental supplier’s sales lot. It had only 45,000 miles on it and was many years old. When I cranked the air conditioning to max on an unquestionably sizzling and humid day for the test drive, I fell in love, and sure, all of the other features were fine in the vehicle, although I was missing that killer air conditioning!

I get bad stress headaches often.

It’s not love I’m freaking out about my workload and all the responsibilities I have to shoulder.

I do my best to prioritize my integrity and get things done. It’s just that every now and then, the small text on the PC screens begins to bend and blur, my head starts swimming, and I begin to know a pain that begins in my temples and travels slowly across my skull and occasionally down the back of my neck. It doesn’t help that my office chair doesn’t supply the best support; Anyway, by the time I get back home, my headache can be quite severe, and that’s when I crank down the air conditioning and just rest on the living room couch directly below the air vent and bask in the coolness. It’s the first thing I do when I get apartment nearly every work day, and it makes me so thankful that I have an air conditioning that I can rely on to cool down, not just my body, but my mind after a long day at work. It’s almost love my brain is a PC processor that needs a heating sink in order to keep from melting! At least that’s how it feels, quite often. I’m also grateful for the air conditioning ideas at the office I work for, considering that’s officially where the headaches start. Whoever’s in control of the thermostat is a little bit stingy though, so I still can’t wait to get apartment to crank up my own air conditioning. It’s the little things that can help me to keep going!

Man, I knew that selling the house would be an experience.

But I don’t think I was truly prepared for what an overwhelming situation that whole deal ended up being.

Between working all the hours inside the zone controlled HVAC of the office and trying to get the house on the market, I was overwhelmed. It was like I was simply dragging myself from one place to another in order to just keep going. Finally, we got the projects done that we wanted to do to get the house on the market. There was a fully upgraded kitchen, new flooring, a new roof and all sorts of other details like painting and landscaping. In fact, prior to calling to have the listing agent come out for the first time, I told my wife that I had never liked the house more. I was seriously thinking about staying put. And then, the realtor told us that the place looked great but we needed to replace the heating and cooling equipment. That’s when I almost threw in the towel. More cash outlays were not what I was looking for. Sure, the HVAC equipment was old but I thought maybe we could negotiate that part at closing. The realtor showed me the data on why the seller always loses on that one. So we got new residential HVAC and the realtor was right. We sold the place for a bundle and I’m so thankful I just did what the real estate professional said to do. It so paid off.

The HVAC technician was pretty straightforward and I always appreciate that in just about anyone.

I’m the sort of person who just likes to understand the facts. I’m not so worried about implications or emotions when it comes to just assessing the facts before me. All that other stuff can come later after necessary decisions have been made. The HVAC professional told me that the HVAC equipment in my home was about to die. It had gone for some 25 years so I can’t say I was shocked. He suggested that I contact the HVAC company to speak with the HVAC contractor about the upgrade to our residential HVAC. I did just that but I also had a bit of an ulterior motive as well. Happily, I listened to the HVAC professionals at the HVAC company as they laid out my choices and options for new residential HVAC equipment. But inside, I was just taking notes because I wasn’t about to pay retail for the new heating and cooling equipment. I was just using the information from the HVAC professionals so I could then go find what I wanted at a much lower price. And that’s just what I did. Scouring the internet for months led me to a crazy great price on the residential HVAC that would replace the old HVAC unit. Plus, I was going to save something like 35 percent over what the HVAC company price. I bought the heating and cooling equipment and had it shipped to my house. Then, I called to have the HVAC contractor get the installation process underway. He did that with an initial inspection. And that’s when he informed me that the HVAC unit I bought for such a great deal wasn’t big enough for the air volume in my home. Ouch.

When the word came down that my wife was being promoted and relocated to head up a new office, it was bittersweet.

For sure, I was so glad that she finally was getting the recognition that she deserved.

That lady had worked so hard for so many years inside the zone controlled HVAC of that office. And she’d been passed over a number of time when it came to promotions. So, I think we sort of just figured that she’d stay where she was and we’d settle down to enjoy our life as part of this community. We bought a house and did all sorts of renovations. One of which was replacing the HVAC equipment. We chose not to just replace the HVAC unit but to really upgrade the entire heating and cooling experience. Our HVAC company helped us choose the latest when it comes to residential HVAC. The heating and cooling equipment we were able to get is awesome. There is zone controlled HVAC, a super high SEER rating and a smart thermostat. When we found out that we’d have to move for this new job, I think I was most upset to leave the super quality heating and air of our home. I’d only been able to fully enjoy this new residential HVAC for just over a year. However, I have to hand it to the HVAC company. They came through for us with all sorts of promotional material to hype the new HVAC equipment to prospective buyers. It was tough to say goodbye to that house and all that HVAC goodness. But we sure made a ton of money with it.
