When we first had solar panels installed on our roof, we were so excited about the savings we would have on the energy bills. We have a large roof too and we fit a lot of solar panels up there. We have a 25 year warranty for the solar panels too, so that’s reassuring. They are guaranteed to have at least 80% efficiency up until 25 years, so I can’t wait to see if they can stand the test of time. So far though, we have been saving a lot of money on the energy bills. I couldn’t believe how low the electric bills have been. Then we recently decided to upgrade our HVAC system to something more energy efficient. That old system really was an energy hog according to our HVAC professional. He suggested that we go with a ductless multi-split system. I’m glad he recommended this because it made sense to go with a ductless system seeing the awesome energy saving potential. Now we have HVAC zone control throughout the whole house. Each room has customized temperature control settings and the children are especially pleased about that. They certainly haven’t been fighting over the temperature control settings anymore, that’s for sure. The thing I didn’t expect though was for the energy company to give us credit on our bills instead of us owing them. When the credit built up high enough, they eventually cut us a check for putting more energy on the grid than pulling from it! That HVAC upgrade was definitely worth it and I’m so happy to have a nice solar panel system.

I never actually expected that we would have our heating system quit working on us in the middle of the winter, but it happened to us this past winter.

It wasn’t any fault of our own because we always kept up with regular HVAC maintenance and tune-ups.

The heating system was properly taken care of. Unfortunately, we learned that somebody in the area slammed into a powerline pole knocking it over and causing the power to go out in our area. Since the power was off, the gas furnace was unable to light up since it uses power for the igniters. In a case like that, it would have been preferable to have a gas furnace that used a pilot light, but nope, we didn’t have that. Fortunately, we do have a fireplace and so we immediately got a bunch of firewood together and got a fire started in the fireplace. We kept that fireplace roaring the whole time the power was out. I was so thankful when the power finally came on early in the morning as the professionals were able to get the power back online. It was kind of a scary situation, but it would have been so much worse if we didn’t have a fireplace. After that terrible experience, I decided to have a backup generator installed in the house so that we never go so long without power again in the future. I’m also thinking about having solar panels installed in the near future, so that we have additional security when it comes to having power to our home.

In the beginning, I thought I would only be able to afford a cheap HVAC system.

I looked around into different HVAC companies and ended up calling a few places that had good reviews.

I had a consultation with a few different people. The first guy seemed like he just wanted to sell every HVAC component there was to me including a humidifier, UV air purification system, and even a ductless mini split for my garage. Well, I didn’t like the price for all that so I consulted with the next local contractor. This guy seemed more reasonable, but when I asked if there were payment plan options for what he recommended, he said unfortunately they couldn’t do that. I thought it was ridiculous that he expected the bill to be paid in one large lump sum. Then I spoke with another HVAC expert who was very understanding and listened to everything I had to say. He even said they had numerous payment plan options that could fit my budget easily. I was happy about that and I ended up being able to have a nice ductless multi-split system in my home. The beautiful thing about this HVAC system other than the fact that it has HVAC zone control is the fact that it also has built-in air purification! It works with an advanced UV air purification system that uses HEPA filters. The payment plan is great and I will have this thing paid off in no time. I’m so glad I was able to find a quality HVAC system.

Things didn’t go my way when I went to college.

I actually just wanted to go to a local community college at first, but my parents pushed me to go to something nicer in their minds.

I got into this college they wanted me to attend, but I didn’t get along with most of the students there. I felt like an outcast and like I didn’t belong at this school. Things weren’t even like that for me when I was in high school, it was easy to make friends. I tried to push myself to just get by since I realized it wasn’t all about the social experience, but learning what I needed to learn in order to get a good career. I worked at it for awhile, but I couldn’t take it anymore after a few fights with my roommate in the dorms. I finally decided to drop college as I was struggling rather badly anyway. I never was able to get good sleep because the room was always feeling overheated. Even when I purchased a portable AC unit, somebody reported me saying that I was not permitted to bring portable HVAC units in the dorms which I thought was ridiculous. I swore all these people were out to make my life miserable. My parents were upset when I dropped out, but I ended up going to an HVAC trade school, and this school was more to my liking. Everybody there was nice and while learning about heating and cooling equipment wasn’t as easy as I imagined, it was very interesting stuff. Now I’m an HVAC professional and I’m paying off my own student loans instead of letting my parents pay for my mistake.

I was embarrassed when I had some old buddies come to visit my house.

They said it was great that I was a homeowner, but I had to do something about the air quality.

I felt dumb when we were all looking at my air filter that hadn’t been changed in several months. They were 3 month air filters, but it must’ve been 5 months since I changed it and my HVAC system actually was struggling. It was something that just slipped my mind to be honest, but my buddies said I had to be careful about that sort of thing. They let me know that not only does the HVAC struggle with a blocked up air filter, but it can cause serious damage to the system because of the lack of airflow. They said I didn’t want to have an overheated system and end up with a crack in the heat exchanger, because that would mean having to buy a new HVAC system entirely. That didn’t sound like something I would be able to afford, so next thing I knew, we were at the local hardware store looking at the air filters I needed for my system. My buddies were saying that they were so expensive and in the future I should think about buying my air filters online. Because I needed to change the air filter immediately, I bought just one air filter. When we got back to my house, they showed me a good website to buy air filters from, and they were way cheaper than the prices at the store with free 3 day shipping.

My wife and I were really excited when we went on a cruise for the first time.

We almost backed out when we were thinking about the possibility of there being some issue that causes the boat to sink. Neither of us are good swimmers and we thought if there was something wrong with the boat, we might drown or something. Then we realized we were being ridiculous and our family members encouraged us to pack our things and have a wonderful time. Well, the boat was quite charming and we loved the cabin that we had waiting for us. In our cabin, the climate control system was amazing. There was a smart thermostat we were able to connect to and it made adjusting the temperature control settings a breeze. Even the captain and crew members were great. The captain of the boat made a short speech welcoming us on board and explaining the route we would be taking and spoke briefly of our time that would be spent ashore at a nice tropical island. The buffets were calling our names when we were hungry and I couldn’t believe how great all the food was, and there was so much of it. We had a great time the whole time. I think swimming in the pool was probably the most exciting. But I do have to admit that when we went ashore, the museum we went to was pretty nice. It was an old maritime museum and we learned all kinds of interesting facts about the history of the area.

After trying out a couple of office jobs, I finally realized that office work is not for me.

I have always been fascinated by plants and so after carrying out the required research, I decided to open a plant shop.

My dad graciously assisted with the capital which boosted my start. I had seedlings, seeds, and growing plants. On the first day at the shop, I sold almost all the seedlings. The more I researched about plants and how to care for them the more information and insight I got into providing an environment with high indoor air quality. I realized that I needed a new air conditioning system to keep the plants fresh, especially during summer. I consulted a cooling expert from the HVAC business downtown who recommended the mini split air conditioner. It was a bit pricey but was said to be very energy efficient and could cool certain parts of the shop including the seedling room. The cooling specialist would handle the installation. For the temperature control, I opted for a programmable thermostat. With this device, I can program the desired temperature even if I am not in the shop. To centrally control the different zones within the shop, the professional installed a zone control system complete with HVAC ducts. With the presence of vents, the professionals did the duct sealing to conserve energy and keep the cool air within the shop. A new contractor in the team of technicians shared a schedule of air conditioner tune-up that would see the unit functioning optimally for a long time, just like the heat pump I have at home. It has been six months and my plants are fairing on excellently.

No sooner had we gotten back to the office from our lunch than the boss instructed us to go to the community kitchen as they needed the system fixed.

We immediately left the HVAC business heading to the community kitchen.

The kitchen is a sort of large dining hall where the homeless and the needy get their meal from. The volunteers usually prepare the food there and also serve it there. The kitchen has different partitions. We went to the first partition, the dining area where the heat pump was located. It was making weird noises and I considered dirt and dust in the HVAC ducts. The new contractor cleaned out the vents and filters. He also did duct sealing which greatly improved indoor air quality and comfort. I also noticed a mini-split air conditioner in the other partition. It was connected to a central zone control system. My colleagues had just run an air conditioner tune-up on the fairly new air conditioning system and installed a new temperature control and update from the dial thermostat. Our work was not going on smoothly because we were working in a room full of people and this was affecting how we work as well as our speed. Since we were running with a schedule, the cooling experts tested the unit while the cooling specialist took the homeowner through the importance of regular maintenance of your system to ensure it lasted longer while working optimally. We pressed through and finally completed the job, cleaned our workstation, and announced our desire to depart. By this time, people had left the kitchen apart from a handful.
