I politely reminded her about the time, plus she left to continue her drive. I wonder what her next topic of interest will be.

I have moved in with my sister to a easily nice home complex close to the beach, however she always wanted to live near the beach.

She visited the beach as often as possible even when she lived quite a long way away, then i am also comfortable with being close to the sand and the surf! The home itself is easy, however smartly designed.

I particularally cherish how it has zone control Heating plus A/C. If you do not know what that is, zone controlled Heating plus A/C allows an home or homeowner to set strange uneven temperatures in individual zones of the residence, this means I am able to have my own temperature on the control unit in my room! This was quite the relief for me, because I knew that my sister tends to get chilly surprisingly fast and quite easily! I even walked into her room once to find that she had her control unit set all the way up to 78 degrees! Mind you, it was nearly 90 degrees that afternoon! Meanwhile, I keep my control unit always set to 78 degrees at the easily most, and quite often, down to 78 if I want to cool off after a workout, or I just feel like it. I also set my control unit to 69 degrees every night, because I simply sleep better when it is nice and cool in my room. I know my sister would not tolerate such “freezing” uneven temperatures, so I am beyond cheerful she gets to be comfortable at her favorite temperature, while I can do the same.

I was surprised when I called the local heating and a/c company and I got the busy signal.

The second time I called, I was localed on hold.

I was undoubtedly on hold for about 15 minutes before a receptionist picked up. I was trying to call the heating and a/c contractor to redeem a discount coupon I had earned in the mail for being a loyal customer. I tried to schedule an appointment, but to my surprise, I wouldn’t be able to get heating and a/c maintenance for a month! That was crazy, and I had never seen the a/c companies this busy before. I went ahead and busy the appointment, that way I could still redeem my coupon. I guess it wasn’t that hard to figure out why they might be undoubtedly busy. After all, I wasn’t the only one who earned those coupons, as it was winter, and that is usually the time when a lot of heating and a/c companies are busy as it is. Out of curiosity, I called around to other local Heating and Air Conditioning corporations, and they were also fairly busy. Although I could get an earlier appointment with these other businesses, I decided to stick with my new one, because otherwise I would miss out on my coupon, and besides, I don’t need Heating and Air Conditioning maintenance urgently or anything like that. I just feel disappointing for those people who do need a/c maintenance urgently, because they are going to be waiting a few weeks. I’m cheerful I called when I did, before they became even busier.

The heating corp worker got me thinking about the sugar thing the other day when we were doing some ductwork repair jobs.

I’m going to probably toss out this new cheap bread that I bought the other day because it is way too sweet. I don’t know who comes up with the recipes for these mass produced foods but someone has a bit of a sweet tooth and is putting too much sugar in everything. I had a grilled cheese sandwich the other day with tomato soup and it tasted like I was eating a dessert. It was so sweet. I ended up tossing out the soup and I will probably do the same with the bread because the local business is selling us nothing more than sugar coated foods in their air conditioned shiny store. People eat way too much sugar on a regular basis and that is why a lot of people have weight problems, just like I have. So now, this HVAC technician is going to make a change and remove all sugar from his climate controlled flat. I think I am almost void of all sugar in the flat but I have to go through it and double check. I noticed my waist has been getting bigger the past year and now it is time to reverse the process and shrink it down again. I will also cut back on beer at the local business where I normally grab one each day in the nice air conditioned store by the beach. I will switch to water with lemon instead.

The HVAC corp was paying me like $60K a year back then, which is pretty good money in today’s world, but all of the heating and cooling system work in the world didn’t interest me anymore and I had to get out of it.

I was talking about how I left my corporate job back in November of 1999 and how happy I am for doing it. I was working as a mechanical engineer building medical equipment for a big company and I was tired of working in such an environment. You had a keycard to get into the locked building with no windows and it bordered the feeling of a prison when I was inside. You couldn’t see out at all and when you finally left for the day it wasn’t daytime anymore. I’d get home at 7pm to my air conditioned lonely home and would crash next to my a/c system from exhaustion after a long day in the office. I did that for seven years and finally told myself no more and left it behind me forever. The HVAC corp was paying me like $60K a year back then, which is pretty good money in today’s world, but all of the heating and cooling system work in the world didn’t interest me anymore and I had to get out of it. That was almost 24 years ago and I am so happy I got out of it when I still could because a lot of my friends are still stuck in their office jobs. The only thing I liked was designing ductwork for the large commercial HVAC equipment that we built, but most of the time I was in meetings or writing reports for the big boss. My life is a lot different now being a musician and a part time writer overseas, wow.

Staying calm and relaxing is very important for living a good life.

When you get all riled up about a small thing it really doesn’t help you with it and just makes you more upset. So after waking up sick yesterday I am going to work on staying calm and weathering this storm and it will pass just like all the other storms in my life. I am lucky I don’t have some high powered corporate job with meetings and reports all day like I used to have. I couldn’t imagine going to a meeting at 8am with heating and cooling techs and bosses for a couple of hours at the HVAC company I used to work at. I would have to prepare a report that I wasn’t interested in at all and give a speech to my boss and his two bosses, talk about stress. The heating and cooling corp where I worked ran 24 hours a day and sometimes I’d have to go there in the middle of the night because of some HVAC system problem. They would have me work on Saturdays for most of the day, without extra pay, and I would be left with just Sundays free. I left that HVAC technology job many years ago and now work at a relaxed pace in my home at just a fraction of what I worked when I was a heating rep for that company. I remember sleeping on my lunch breaks because I was so tired, but now that is in the past and I’m glad I made the change and left the HVAC corporation for good.

I am going to go through all of my cupboards and get rid of any sugar that I find. I was doing a zero sugar diet for a few years but it is slowly creeping back into my diet and now it is time to reboot and clear it all out of here. They put sugar in everything nowadays so you have to be really diligent when looking to keep sugar out of your diet. They sneak it in mustard, pasta sauce, bread, and a host of other things that we wouldn’t think have sugar in them. The local contractor friend of mine said he doesn’t eat anything in a box or a bag and only buys refrigerated fruits and veggies in the big supermarkets. I am not that extreme but close to it, and now I need to tighten up my diet so I don’t get sick like I am now with this cold. I woke up beside my HVAC system running yesterday morning and noticed my throat was starting to hurt. It wouldn’t have been such a big deal if I hadn’t just kicked another cold a month ago, so now I am going to change my diet and remove all sugars from the flat. I bought this new bread at the local business after my HVAC tech told me about it, but it tastes suspiciously sweet and I think they loaded it up with sugar. I’m afraid to look at the label but I’m sure there is a lot of sugar added to it. The heating tech didn’t know though.

HVAC maintenance

It isn’t a fun feeling when you wake up with a sore throat and sinus infection after only a month of just getting over a bad one.

But that is what I am facing now and I think it probably came on because I was eating too much sugar.

I was doing a zero sugar diet, and I mean no sugar at all, except for fruit and naturally occurring sugars in whole foods. I broke down last Friday night and got a chocolate ice cream cone from the store. It was really good but now my body’s heating up with a fever and I am sitting next to my whole home air purifier trying to breathe in fresh air. Today I don’t have too much on the plate with this cold and I plan on taking it easy most of the day. I will do my heating and cooling system work online for a few hours and then take a much needed nap in air conditioned luxury in my bedroom in the back. I canceled my dentist appointment and yoga class this week and I will resume the class when I’m feeling better. I teach at this local business but I don’t want to spread my cold to the students or to all the HVAC techs who work with me at the HVAC company. I will try to stay in my office most of the day and keep away from other people till I am feeling better. My HEPA filter is keeping the indoor air quality good for my flatmate so I don’t get her sick too.
