My girlfriend and I went to visit her parents.

They live up north, about 1300 miles away from our apartment and the place where we live.

My girlfriend moved away from home for college and that’s when the two of us met. We started dating in our junior year of college and we moved in together before our senior year of college. Both of us had graduated and found jobs and both of us decided to stay where we were. My girlfriend really wanted me to meet her parents, especially after I popped the question. Would you send it to take a one week trip to see her folks and her old friends. Since it was going to take 20 hours to drive, we decided to make the trip in 2 days. We drove half of the distance the first day and half of the distance the second day. We stayed in a hotel room so we didn’t have to sleep in the car. The bed in the hotel room was very comfortable and the shower was clean with plenty of hot water. The only problem was the fact that the hotel room was cold and icy when we arrived. No one bothered to turn on the heater and it was only about 60 degrees in the room when we arrived.. The wall-mounted heater was off when we entered the room and it took about an hour for the room to get to a temperature that was warm enough for us to take off our jackets. It stayed pretty warm after that initial heating.

I’ve been making some changes in my home and that includes a lot of upgrades and remodeling.

One of the first things that I decided to do after moving into the house is update the HVAC system. The home inspector told me that the HVAC system was not efficient and would need to be replaced. I got estimates for the heating and air conditioning equipment before I actually purchased the house. As soon as I closed the sale, I contacted the HVAC contractor to install three ductless mini split heating and air conditioning units. Each one of the ductless heating and air conditioning units has a separate thermostat so I can have different temperatures in different parts of my home. I usually keep it cooler in the living room than my bedroom, because the living room is a much larger space. I was very pleased and happy with the choice of the ductless heating and AC unit. The hot water heater that I purchased this week is almost as nice as the ductless heating and cooling system. I bought an updated on demand hot water heater. The hot water heater offers a continuous flow of hot water at all times. We don’t have to wait for the water to warm up and waste gallons of water. As soon as I turn on the hot water, there is hot water coming out of the bigot and shower. We also have no reserve. We can run the hot water for hours and we will continue to have hot water the entire time.

I went to a residential furnace repair on Friday. The residential furnace repair was for one of our business customers. The guy owns a bunch of apartments downtown. The apartments are located in several different areas. One apartment building has four different units, but another apartment building has 14 units. The guy also owns an apartment building that has six floors and 24 units. I want to help one of the customers in the smaller apartment building. The woman was not home at the time. She left a key for me to get into the apartment. The key was underneath the mat. I was expecting the key to be there, because the owner of the apartment building gave me the information. I was happy to see the key right there underneath the mat when I picked it up. Upon entering the house, I noticed several problematic items. The house was in complete and total disarray. There were dirty dishes and diapers all over the house and the place smelled horrible. I didn’t even want to walk through the apartment to get to the area where the furnace was located. After I repaired the furnace and made sure that it was in top-notch condition, I contacted the apartment building owner. I gave him an update on the repair and I also updated the homeowner with the condition of the apartment. I thought he should visit the place sooner than later. The tenants were treating his apartment like a crack house. I wouldn’t want someone trashing my property and million dollar investment.

We had a late summer storm and it rained for 3 days.

During that time, the city received nearly 5 inches of rain.

The basement of my home was under 8 inches of water after we had the rain. Everything seemed to seep into the house and pile up on the floor. I had to contact a plumber because the sump pump in the basement was clogged and not working properly. The plumber fixed the pump so all of the water would drain, but he didn’t really do anything about the fact that there was mold and mildew. All of the mold and mildew damage was going to cause a lot of problems if we didn’t do something to remediate the issues quickly. I went to the hardware store and I bought a dehumidifier. The dehumidifier was costly, but it was the only way that I could think of getting rid of all the moisture downstairs. I plugged the machine into the wall on the north side of the basement. There is a sink close to that side of the basement and I needed a place to drain the dehumidifier. When I plugged in the machine, the moisture levels downstairs were around 86%. The levels went down every single day as long as I continued to run the dehumidifier. On the second day, the indoor humidity levels were 78%. On the third day they went down to 72% and on the 5th day, moisture levels inside of the house were only at 45%. The dehumidifier helped save us thousands of dollars in costly repairs.

My girlfriend and I had to move last weekend. The weatherman said that we were supposed to have clear skies, sunny days, and warm and humid temperatures. I wasn’t exactly looking forward to moving in the heat, but I was happy that there was no rain in the forecast. We picked up the moving truck on Saturday morning. My boyfriend and I carefully loaded all of our furniture, clothing, and possessions into the back of a moving truck. It took most of the day for the two of us to get everything done. We stopped for lunch around 2:00 in the afternoon. We were sitting at the diner when I saw the clouds roll in. The clouds came in really quickly and almost went out warning. All of a sudden the sunny skies were dark and filled with black clouds. Then it started raining hard. The rain continued for more than an hour and soaked everything around us. We couldn’t move anything in or out of the truck while it was raining, because we didn’t want all of our things to be soaked. We waited until the rain subsided. The rain certainly changed the temperatures outside. I’m thankful the AC was already on in our new apartment. It was much more humid after the rain. The rest of the moving day was miserable, but it was cool and comfortable indoors. We finished unpacking all of our boxes and clothes with plenty of time left over to get a good night of rest before going back to work the next day.

The weather during this time of year is usually very warm and sunny. It has been extremely nice to enjoy cooler temperatures than usual. Last year it was between 90 and 100° at this time of the year and this year we are enjoying temperatures that are closer to 70°. The cooler temperatures mean that we do not have to use the air conditioner all of the time. The brake for the air conditioner means lower bells during the month and less worry and fear about the condition of the air conditioner. Our air conditioner has been running poorly for the last year, but if we don’t have the money to replace it. My wife and I contacted a company in town to see how much it would cost for a new air conditioner. Repair and response team came out to look at the air conditioner. The person determined that it was time for us to replace the system. Unfortunately, it’s going to cost about $6,000 to replace the air conditioner. My wife and I don’t have that money, especially because we just had to make repairs to the car. The car needed four new tires, brakes, and suspension. It costs a ton of money to keep the car running in good shape. It also costs a ton of money to keep the air conditioner running in good shape. I’m thankful the car lasts a lot longer than the air conditioner so we don’t have to pay to replace that machine as frequently as the other.

When my son was six months, we realized he was getting allergic triggers from something in the house. We cleaned up a lot, swapped out our woolen carpets for hypoallergenic ones, and sealed the garden window because that side of the house always got dustier than the rest. We also called the HVAC repairman a lot more often for HVAC maintenance than others because we needed the best air quality in the house. But all those measures didn’t help because something was constantly triggering the allergies. We had already changed from the boiler after numerous boiler repair calls to the heating business experts, and we got the furnace and heat pump combination they called a hybrid heating system. Still, it was no longer working for us. The logic for it had been that we’d never have downtime with it. The heating expert eventually told us to try a hydronic heating system because it would function as a whole house heater without introducing any contaminants to the air. The plan was to get it working in all the areas where the child would spend most of the time and the sleeping area, too, and that sounded functional to me because then we’d try and switch off the furnace/heater installation and see if the allergies reduced. I was slightly worried about heater maintenance because the additional heat and AC product would also need to be maintained, but I was reassured that it wouldn’t be as hectic as I imagined. The heated floors worked, and it was such a relief because I was afraid he’d end up with adenoids or something more severe like asthma, but we were lucky to resolve the triggers. We might move eventually, but raising him without the fear of his allergies has been a relief.

After years of having floor heating from our hydronic heating, it finally started giving us trouble.

I remember trying to keep the house heater running while my kids yelled that the floors were still cold.

We’d long given up indoor socks because we didn’t need them, and suddenly, the furnace was not enough to keep us warm. We needed an HVAC repairman for heater maintenance, but it wasn’t an emergency, so we had to wait for some days until the heating business could find a heat and AC product expert to send to our house. The heating maintenance happened four days later, and lucky for us, it was a minor issue fixed within ours. We had kept the system well serviced for years, so whatever the problem wasn’t something major. My daughters were glad to have the heated floors back on, at least for the season, because we were warned that running it for long would minimize its lifetime. The furnace/heater installation was a reliable backup, so we started limiting the number of hours the floor would be warmed. We also shopped for a heat pump because the backup was about to turn ten years old, which was its expected lifespan, which is when I learned about a hybrid heating system that sounded better than just getting a single pump. The heating dealership was also offering the option for a cheaper cost than other heaters except for the boilers. Still, I wanted to avoid boiler repair anywhere in my future as much as they came well recommended. Moreover, the hybrid unit seemed like a more modern and energy-efficient system for us. Replacing the backup sooner than two years later meant that we’d do it comfortably because, in two years, our kids would need more from us than they do now.

For our dream home, we always mentioned wanting heated floors in the list of things we’d want.

We were dating then, but that’s one thing about heating we both agreed on.

It seemed easy to buy the hydronic heating system from the heating business and get an HVAC repairman to install it. Simple. Or so we thought. We went to the heating dealership to get familiar with the type of heater we wanted, and we did get to know how it worked. Still, the heat and AC product expert recommended that we consider a heat pump or hybrid heating as a backup because we wanted the hydronic mostly for floor warming. The options sounded better than a boiler because I’d had a terrible experience with boiler repair, and my husband was not open to a furnace either. When we included the backup options, the furnace/heater installation cost grew higher for us. Hence, we had to ask the HVAC maintenance and installation expert if there were any ways to make the installation cheaper. That’s how we ended up with the hydronic system that heats the floors in some parts of the house and wall radiators to keep the rest warmer. We’ve not had trouble with heating maintenance so far, but the glamor of it has started to wear off, and I can’t wait to have a change of the system once this one starts to give us repair trouble. The only perk right now is that I don’t have to worry about my kids getting cold while playing on the floor because they are always warm. By the time we intend to make the change, they’ll be grown and easier to keep warm.

The first time I experienced heated floors, I was super intrigued.

I wanted to learn how they worked and whether they’d burn us, but the temperatures stayed constant.

I grew up in a home without heating because we didn’t need it and had only experienced a heater in my college hostel, which I only remember as a boiler that needed constant boiler repair. Bad experience. My first house had a furnace/heater installation which I never bothered with HVAC maintenance because the property manager handled it. So long as my house kept warm, I had no interest in the HVAC business, and the HVAC repairman was just a person I saw in the heating dealership van that came around the apartment every few months. I was hoping to own a house in a few years when I experienced the heater floors, which I was told was possible from the hydronic heating in the house. The owner told me they also had a hybrid heating system with a furnace and a heat pump as a backup in case heater maintenance failed or repair took too long, and they had clients. I was intrigued by the entire system and how they were working it, and that marked my journey to learning more about keeping a home comfortable. I wanted heated floors, but I also read a lot about them and how they could either be too expensive to maintain or ineffective in keeping the entire house warm. I started with getting to know an HVAC expert, at least because they know more about the systems better than the information I was getting from social media questions and replies. The cost has been the most intimidating in the process, but I’ll keep saving until I can get myself heater floors.
